When that happens, a lot of the time you find the Oil pump drive pin that goes thu the cam sheered off. Take the oil line off that goes to the filter and try to prime the pump. After trying that put oil in with the engine running and if it does not bubble or take a prime you will have to pull the engine to fix it.

I'm fearing the worst has happened and perhaps the pin has sheared. I bought this tractor last summer and some previous owner had installed a 12V system with an alternator. The 12V's certainly does hammer the starter drive when engaging and I imagine that impact also transfers to the pump/cam pin location and possibly contributed to the shearing off (if that's what has happened). I was planning on converting back to a 6V with generator but that's not a concern right now obviously.

As far as priming the pump, I assume you mean feeding oil into it from the vertical tube that comes up out of the clutch cover? That must lead to the pump, is that correct? How much oil is needed to prime the pump? Is it done with the engine running or not?

I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly what you are referring to in your last sentence. Could you clarify that for me?

The one response about the pressure relief valve being stuck open is interesting. Where exactly is this on the model B? Maybe in the oil filter housing?

One last question, it's probably a long shot but I should check out the oil pickup screen first. I assume that there is one coming down into the oil pan sump. Is that correct?

I appreciate the help you and others have provided so far.
