Allis B Charging System

I was having a problem with the charging system on an Allis B.
I had noticed a little smoke coming from the switch box and I investigated...
I found that the resistor had been red hot but was cooling down when I removed
the cover from ground. The switch was pushed all the way in and I noticed that
the amp meter was just sitting at (0). The genie had been working fine and the
switch was working as well. I had 3 amps with the switch pushed in and with lights
on and at the third lever the amp meter showed 10 amps.
With the tractor running I gounded the switch and the resistor became red hot...
So I ungrouned the switch and it cooled down...
So I removed the cut out relay cover and found that with the ground wire to the
switch not connected the cut out was open and when I gounded the switch the cut out
closed and resistor became red hot so I pulled the switch to the third position and
the resistor cooled...

Well today I have located and fixed the Problem...
The first chack that I did was to see if there was any voltage on the "BAT" side of the
cut out relay. I found that there was NO Voltage there...
So, I then removed the wires from the original amp meter and with an ohm meter checked
the amp meter for through put. I found that the amp meter to be defective.
I had a new amp meter from AGCO. I installed it and grounded the switch box and checked
for voltage at the "BAT" side of the cut out relay and now I had voltage!
Started the tractor and WOW... everything is WORKING FINE...
JUST WANTED TO LET EVERYONE KNOW THAT A APPERICATE YOU ASSISTANCE IN THE PROBLEM...
PS... there was no fireworks when this meter went out... I guess that the amp meter
took early retitrement at 58 years...
