...guess it is "possible" to remove the broken shaft and related parts while the bolster is still on the tractor; but would be alot easier with it off and on a bench.
The important thing is to align the gears correctly so that the left/right travels are the same.

Thanks for the info & Pic. I will be removing the bolster. Already have FEL, Stinger Pump, Tin, etc off. Ready to remove front axle then get to steering box. You mention several times about proper alignment of gears. I have R&R�d several different boxes on old Fords, and understand their sectors and alignment. Shims also, usually for proper bearing preload, so if the same applies to this box at least I have somewhat of an understanding. Definitely is a new one for me though, on an old AC. The Pic will really help. I do have a manual on the way. I would prefer to re-build this box rather than replacing the entire steering box. What are the best sources for this shaft? Would Agco be the place to find old Allis Chalmers Parts? Think they still have parts like this available? I�m trying to locate a local dealer here in New England. Thanks again for the info.

AGCO may have the parts but they're gonna be expensive.
Do a search for parts suppliers on this site.
You can also try a salvage yard or email me for another suggestion.
