There is a difference in the tank support brackets. I thought all of my B"s and C"s had the extended coupling used but only about half do. The picture below probly shows the problem.

Second picture of the same problem if the coupling was not used.I have the tank loose and slid out but had to use the coupling to get the seditment bowl assembly to clear the support.

These couplings were on these tractors when I bought them.

Little more help needed (of course) in reply to Dick L, 09-24-2005 08:00:55
Thanks for all the insights and pictures everyone. The bowl I purchased is like the ones in the pictures....the only problem is the one I took off is NOT. The extension is needed on this tractor, but the tube/extension I have is way different....it actually screws INTO the top of the sediment bowl and then into the tank. Not sure where I can find a proper one. Anyone have one not being used?

Another problem: the fuel line from the bowl to the carb. isn't hard on our B. Instead, it's a regular rubber hose that's in bad shape. I was just going to replace it with another rubber one, but with my having to use this new, wider, bowl at a different angle (the one I took off was running perdindicular with the tank, with the petcock in the back), should I go with a hard line because of the 90 degree turn? What do I seal the threads with to prevent a leak on the tank/bowl? Thanks again!

Hi Dick,

According to the B/C parts book, there were three different tank supports used on the B. The latest one being for tractor ser B-58401 and up. That fuel bowl extension was apparently a standard part (219139) for all Bs ser B-51293 and up. There is also a reference that particular extension replaced an earlier one (912720) that was also used. My '42B (B-58812) has the original extension and there appears to be a little more room between the fuel bowl assembly and the tank support:

A man with a book! Some day I"m gonna take up readin and then I will be able to keep up.

Thanks Rod, I didn"t know that. I did know that there was two different ones because I have one all painted up and started to use it and the tank was to low. The low ones didn"t have a hole for the wiring harness so I drilled one and then couldn"t use it.

I just drug way to many ofem in from way to far away. You was of one mind and I was the other. When I took my camera ta prove my point I found I didn"t have a point, except under my hat. I was as supprised as any one at the differences. I have more than one tank support that are of different heights and have the different tool box patterens to match them but never checked the length. The cast support may not be different but the toolbox supports different. When I aint gots something else on my mind, or hungry, or teasin Dixie, or what ever, I"ll get out my rubber ruler and check them.
