I went to an auction last Saturday and bught at the cheep price of 10.00 a mower for the B. I think I got it at such a good price as it was at the end of the auction. Or because the auction started at 8 am and it was 7:45 pm could have made the difference. Anyways I am am missing a part for it. Guess which one, the pto pully. I know I can get a pully to make it work but I don't have the size. There are two belts and they mount to the pully that goes on the pto. If any one has a pully they want to part with let me know. Or if anyone has the pully and coulfd let me know the dia. of it I would be greatful. I hope someone doesen't say that I stole the unit. I was the sole bidder and thought I would have to give 100.00 or more. Right place right time I guess. I hope someone out there can give me a hand. Thanks

Nothing to add, but while on the subject anyone know where I'm supposed to drill the holes in my pitman arm blanks? For all I know I may have to shorten the overall length some also. I don't have a whole one to copy. Thanks Joel

From notes in my files: If it has a single PTO drive belt it is a B-C Mower, if it has two drive belts it is a later model and is a No. 5. Serial number, at least for the No. 5, is supposed to be stamped on the top of the main frame front tie.

All right cheapskate. I paid $25 for mine. So that you can rub it in, I also had to get a pitman stick, and drive belt. There is something about twenty or thirty years in God's great storehouse that doesn't help belts any more than it does tires. Consider re-knifing it. Some of the new sickle sections are almost as good as a bush hog. If you want to see my drive pulley call. 607 898 3543 Good luck, you got a great piece of machinery; its ORANGE. Phil

Wouldn't surprise me. Maybe we can get a minute after dinner to take a look at it. Phil

PS: BTW what is the idea of sneaking off to an auction without me? I am HURT! Later.

Hi Ed,

The original B/C sickle mower had a single belt drive. That's the way my '42B unit is. I have seen a double belt drive but thought it was for a CA. Perhaps it was for a later version of the B/C mower, I don't know. In any event, this prior post will give you the dimensions of my drive pulley but it might not be the same diameter for the double belt drive arrangement. Plus the belt size could be different.

If it takes two belts it is probably a CA mower. B/C mowers only used 1 belt. The CA mower also has a curved front mount angle iron whereas the B/C was straight.

Could you give me more info for the curved area. I would like to know if this is for the CA or not. If not would it work on the B?

If the 2 mounting angles that bolt to the torque tube are curved forward it is to allow for the extra length of the CA. If they are straight it will fit the B/C. I'm sure you can make straight brackets easy enough. I believe the 2 pulleys on the CA mower are the same dia. It's been awhile since I have looked at mine.

If the mower has two belts, its is for the CA. Howervr, it will also fit a B and/or a C. The gentlemen is correct, the front brackets were straight for the B & C. Brackets were available for both straight & curved. I don't know about the size of the pulleys. I think the CA mower ran a little faster than the BC Mower, but am not sure about this. I believe I have a book on this mower, if you send me you address and/or Fax NO. I will try to locate the book and send you the pictures of the mounting brackets.
