I agree with STEVE NJ. it sounds like the B-C-WD switch. You have a resistor on the side that is connected to the "F" terminal on the generator and the other side is grounded (on resistor). Normal operation is that the "F" terminal goes thru some resistance and you only get 3 amp charge. When the lgiht switch is pulled out the bypasses the resistor and shorts the "F" to ground and you get 10 amp charge. Kind of like 1/2 of a voltage regulator on a newer unit. You can ground the "F" terminal and go to full charge if you just run a few hours a week. If you run everyday, i would get it repaired so you dont overcharge the battery. Other wires on the switch just run the lights as you said.
