My first question would be has this been this way since you got it home or did it start acting up a little and get progressively worse? If it has been this way since you brought it home my guess would be the clutch plates have stuck togather. If you put the tractor in a lower gear and keep dragging it back and forth with the clutch pedal depressed it will probably break loose and you shouldn't have any more trouble. It's a common problem with machinery that has been sitting a few years. If the second situation fits,I would look at the throwout bearing. If it siezed, when it contacts the throwout fingers on the pressure plate, the fingers will make the bearing rotate the tranny input shaft making it impossible to shift.I would advise against turning the adjustment screws on the pressure plate.I hope I helped a little. There's some excellent mechanics on this board and I'm sure they will add more.

I just swapped motors in my B. Had same problem. Found that if I engaged the pto. then it would work fin--no grinding (in fact you can watch the pto, when it stops, put it in gear). I hope this is only temporary until everything gets worked into place after some use.
