As Gary says, WDs after #127007 have the later helical cut gear transmission with the curved gear shift lever. Someone on this site (or the "Unofficial Allis" site) once stated that WDs after ENGINE Serial #WD289000 had the "tall" heads. This makes sense as I have a 1950 WD Serial #WD272805GA with the "short" head and a 1951 WD Serial #WD309267PA with the "tall" head. In addition to the lack of the pushrod cover on the side of the WD blocks, the serial numbers on WD-45 engines begin with 45 instead of WD.
