WD or WD45?

Dad bought a WD at a local auction with the usual Wd45 stickers on it. Serial number for the tractor is WD129842. I believe that makes is a 1953 WD. The serial # on the engine block is WD340482PA. I don't have a reference for the block #. What makes me wonder about the engine is this: The head is taller than on the other two tractors we own.(WC and WD) The rocker cover is also shorter, and it looks like the spark plugs are more centrally located in the head.(center of bore)Was this head put on the WD's as well as the WD45's? Another note: One of the guys looking at the tractor at the auction said it had helical gears in the tranny. I tend to agree... the tranny is much quiter that the other two we have with the typical straight cut gears.
Thanks in advance for any comments on this matter.

As Gary says, WDs after #127007 have the later helical cut gear transmission with the curved gear shift lever. Someone on this site (or the "Unofficial Allis" site) once stated that WDs after ENGINE Serial #WD289000 had the "tall" heads. This makes sense as I have a 1950 WD Serial #WD272805GA with the "short" head and a 1951 WD Serial #WD309267PA with the "tall" head. In addition to the lack of the pushrod cover on the side of the WD blocks, the serial numbers on WD-45 engines begin with 45 instead of WD.

I also have a 1953 WD , serial WD136504.
The engine block for the WD45 was different from the WD. WD's have a large flat plate on the R/H side of the engine behind the mag / distributor covering all the push rods.Mine also has the helical tranny gears with the curved shifter leaver. This change took effect at serial 127007.
