Marv, your problem might be a busted roll pin in the linkage. Move things and look for extra motion. We usually try to stuff a small roll pin inside the big ones to beef it up. Those shift improvers tap into the oil pressure to the torque and my old IH buddys claimed it would starve them for oil and do them in. Try adjusting the transmission brake mechanism down on the right side of the trans case.
