I also own an 05 6.0. My advice is spend $125 at your dealer to check it out. I did and it saved me $1000 on the module that increases the voltage at startup. They also hook a computer to it and drive it. They can compare exhaust temps to (don't remember the other one), but they catch a plugged erg cooler before it gets really messy. Also, install an inline coolant filter kit. This is a must! A temp gauge kit will help identify problems just like the dealers computer.
Mine has had 3 erg coolers, 2 oil coolers, and head gasket replacement within 80,000 miles. So to own one, you better put back $2,000-$4,000 in the rainy day fund if nothing is covered under warranty. Not to mention the $100 per oil and fuel filter changes that get expensive if you drive it a lot. Mine now only gets driven when hauling something and spends 90% of the time sitting in the garage.
