There aren't any exhaust temp sensors on 6.0. What they were looking at is the engine oil temp vs engine coolant temp. Oil more than 30 degrees hotter than the coolant indicates a restricted oil cooler. Low coolant flow through the oil cooler is what restricts coolant flow through the EGR cooler causing it to fail. If you've never done the iron out flush on yours, that would be a good idea. The iron out dissolves the rust and silicates that clog the oil cooler.
