Thanks so far. I'll try reducing the wire speed, I think it is a function of amp/heat output so I have had it cranked up a little. Its a Crapsman (Century made) 110 mig with flux core .035 wire. It has a gas hose and regulator but it isn't worth spending the money on for argon/co2 mix. I'll save it for a stick welder.
I have it set on the polarity where the book says to be for the wire but it can't hurt to change it and see how it works. I'm in the barn so no wind.
If all else fails then I can jb weld something. Maybe I can weld in a bushing and add another drain assuming I can get a good bead. That would cover the hole.
That electric helmet is like night and day. No more head nodding and hope it strikes the arc in the right place.
