Electric Motors...3450 vs. 1750 RPM

A few threads down I posted a question about a Ridgid tablesaw at Home Depot. I appreciate each of your responses. The $440 included the 10% discount good July 27-30. Next weekend I plan on getting the saw. Now, can someone explain to me the pros/cons of 1725 vs. 3450 rpms? Is it similar to 540 vs. 1000 rpm pto on tractors? Thanks, Glenn F.
