Beryllium copper is toxic. (if you sand it or grind it). I once worked in a machine shop that made tools out of the stuff. Pliers, sockets, wrenchs, etc. These tools are used in mining operations because it won't spark when it gets banged against something. Makes for less explosion hazards when underground. The stuff can be made very hard. That probably explains why only the scrap steel price. Hope you get a better price for the stuff. I know it is expensive to buy. Pooh Bear
