The tongue may have been for horses. That may included a double tree so both horses or mules could be connected to the wagon. We got rid of the hay wagons that were horse drawn in the late 1940's. We bought wagons that were pulled by a tractor and had rubber tires since all the highways were hard surface. A lot were concrete. We even got a new manure spreader on rubber I think it was 90 bushel. That's not much today a local farmer has a 300 bushel spreader and pulls it with a big Ford tractor. I think he told me they use hydraulic pressure to unload it to the beaters. A local mushroom house gives them the soil to spread on his fields. I would like a dump truck load. Hal
