Whats all been done to your G?? Ive tuned a few, got into the carbs a little, nothing real drastic,,,, just made sure it was getting enough good fuel thru the main load jet.. Had a G in the shop I think,,, 3 years ago,,,, had a .125 kit in it,, had 115 psi on each cyl on cranking speed. Made like 45 hp, but pulled down below the 540 pto rpm, it would lug very hard, would bout wrap my dyno needle back around to 0!!! I know lots of fellas that wanna rev em up and go, but if they go faster, and they pull down hard,,, it might suffer on the low side,,, so think of the rpm ranges you intend on pulling,,, does it run at 10% overand never drop rpm (lots of power ) or does it drop way below rated rpm and pull thru its lugging torque curve??? if its really working the engine,, best advice is to tune it for that rpm where its lugging,,, surely, a few adjustemnts in that area, for carb adjustments and timing settings will improve, and smooth out the massive torque these ol 2 lungers make!

The ol G I worked on,,, needed a few things,,, new tension spring on the governor, and the linkage was out of adjustment,, but under a hard load,,, if you can push on the governor linkage and open the carb up more,,, its not opening up the carb fully, and that can rob a few ponies and lots of torque,,, once the governor was opening up the carb under the load, it seemed to get better! Thas what I had seen on em,,, I could push the linkage ahead and fully open the carb,,, once I got the governor to open it up, Id say it jumped 3 hp. I know this isnt much on specifics,,, but hope it helps a little,,,, ChadS ChadS3@hotmail.com

Today's Featured Article - What Oil Should I Use? - by Francis Robinson. I keep seein this question pop up over and over again in discussion groups all over the web. As with many things there are often several right answers and a few wrong ones. Some purist I'm sure will disagree to no end with what I will tell you but most of us out here in the real world don't really care do we ? Some of them only bring their noses down out of the air long enough to look down them anyway. If you are like me you are only doing this old tractor stuff because you enjoy it. You ...
