I have a '48 H that I pull with, our club's rules say that the tractor must be stock with the exception of oversized pistons. we also can only use factory type weights that were available for the tractor, no suitcase type weights.
I use 13.6x38 tires, one set of tire weights on the back. I pull in the 3500-4500lb class and my tractor weighs in at 4480 lbs.
My tractor was overhauled using oversized High compression pistons and very light porting of the head.
This tractor will probably never win it's class but it does a respectable job and it suprizes alot of those people that think H's never pull well! The power to weight ratio is just about perfect as I usually spin out just befor it would power out. It does make full pulls when the track conditions are right.
We don't pull for prizes or anything, usually I get beat by the unstyled john Deere A's with mega buck engines that are nowhere nears stock, They shouldn't even be allowed to pull by our rules but it's all just for fun, so who cares?

As a novice though I didn't appreciate the fact that there were so many Fordson tractors made, that all the other makes seem rare by comparison. As far as I was aware a fordson was a fordson and it was only through trial an ... [Read Article]
