The 16000 (naturally aspirated) and 21000 (turbocharged) engines were used in some heavy equipment and over the road trucks. They were 844 cubic inches and rated up to about 400 horsepower. They were made in the late 60's/early 70's and were painted purple. I have an article about them somewhere. If might be off a bit on the details but I am in the ball park. I am sure it would be an extreme challenge to make one fit. Swapping in one of the "smaller, 426 & up, engines should work out better.
Not sure how D17's would do in the heavier classes. The D19's with the turbo diesel do well and the six cylinder gassers should do okay with a bit of boring and stroking. It all depends on how serious someone is and what they want to spend.
