Jim I have good news and bad news. The good news, I now have the 3 pt hitch working. It lifts the 6' box blade to the top in just a few seconds without running the RPM up.
I looked at the "Magic Washer" like you suggested. Turns out it is nothing more then a copper crush washer. It did have some small dents on it too. Now I know from working on my plane that when you change the plugs (they have crush washers also), you have to put new crush washers on or anneal the old ones before using them again. I didn't have a new one so I annealed this one and it worked.
Now the bad news. I can't control the blade height. It's as if I have to have it all the way up or all the way down. I can't get it to stop just an inch or so above the groung. When it first went up it was jumping like you said it might, so I turned the control all the way to the left and the jumping stopped. But still I can't control where it stops. Do I need to adjust the sensitivity some more?

Although he himself has never actually owned or restored a tractor, he was always enthusiastic and always around helping with other peoples projects.
