I grew up on an IH farm & still farm with red tractors and have several older IH tractors that I have collected but had an uncle that farmed with Olivers so have always had an interest in them. I bought my first Oliver today, a 1948 RC 70. I'm getting ready to change all the fluids in it & would like to know what oils is used in the rear end & tranny and what are the capacities. Also, what is the capacity of the engine oil pan & what oil is recomended for it. I see it has an oil bath air cleaner so would presume it uses the same oil type as the engine.
Another question, orignally was this tractor neg. or positive ground? It didn't have a battery in it when I got it. PO said it was neg grd but according to the clamps on the battery cables it appears to have been pos. grd but when I hooked a battery up that way the starter started to get hot. Switched the cables to neg grd & it was fine.
Float, or needle valve sticks & it needs a new main wiring harness. Has several oil leaks but otherwise runs like a top though doesn't seem to have a wide range of rpms.
Where's the best place to buy parts? I'm sure I'll have more questions as I get farther into it
