An 8N would not have that gauge plus any it would have would not be hurt by 12 volts. That said my 841 had a working fuel gauge when I got it and it was set up as 12 volts but do not know if it had been changed or what ever. A simple ballast resister like say an O'Reilly's VR-1 would do the trick if it was needed
