I have various and sundry stuff from the land of almost right. I have noticed, on some things, that there are one or two really weird things done almost to sabotage the product. I have a welder and one of the capacitors was connected to ground by the screw that holds one of the rubber feet. Really weird. Similar on some cast iron shop equiptment, basic good design and some weird part that is just barely functional, just fix that and things are ok, sometimes. Its hard to know if there are any obvious things that can be easily fixed in the poster's regulator. fwiw
