It has been a while since I have posted here, though I like to read the threads. This reply also speaks to the "lift power" thread. I"ve had an 8N for almost 30 years and use it regularly, but not as often as in the past. Like a dummy, I did leave it out in the rain for a Northern Californian winter or two with no shift boot. I was kind of proud that the tranny/diff oil didn"t seem to go down over the years. I did notice a loss of lifting power and maybe even an increase in hydraulic level. Tore down and found a hyd pump that looked brand new after 40 years. The cause, of course, was water in the oil, at the bottom where the pump draws its supply. Water makes a lousy hydraulic fluid.
Upshot: replaced hyd oil, everything works great and it stays under cover year round.
