A short story, about 25 years ago I resurrected a worn out 333 with a shot engine, made up my mind to put a flat head continental in it, found a 244 in an Oliver combine. There used to be a Continental Dealer in the Twin Cities, talked to the machinist there to see what I could do for max power and long life, I was going to use this tractor on the farm. He said stay away from the 244 cause they all cracked by the exhaust valves, said find a good 226 and he would bore it 40 over for me and it would live a good long life, put in hard seats and stellite valves and he said it would run 10,000 hours on propane. I took his advice and I still use that tractor today and have never touched the engine, many, many hours of use. I will also add, not a lot of power by todays standards and it will not lug down like a 4 cylinder will.
