Lets see if i can answer your question. First I need to clarify, by "magneto" you mean the two black round coils with spark plug wires for the pony motor? they are the ignition coils, if they are warm they are conducting voltage from your ignition switch to your points(mechanical switch to ground). Easy test, connect a test light with the clamp on the test light grounded and the probe touching the wire on the points, with the ignition switch on, crank the pony. If the test light flashes consistently on each set of points the primary side of your ignition systems are working. You must have clean dry points in order for it to be consistent. If you have left the ignition switch on for an extended time with out the engine running and the points happen to be closed the coils will heat and burn open.
