I appreciate the info but I don't even have the front cover off, the engine is in a wood processor and is quite difficult to remove the cover being the oil pan needs to come off and with the bottom crossmember that is in there the engine would have to come out. engine and pump are lined up I believe but something new is that the injection pump shaft wont fit in the gear all the way up the taper and a jd mechanic has said that the pump shaft should slide right into the gear and have only a few thousands of an inch between the flange and the back of the engine with just the washer and the nut sucked up tight without even having the flange nuts put on yet. trying now to figure out if someone had ever got into the front cover and changed the gear or if on the off chance numbers got messed up on the rebuild somewhere and the shaft might be to long
