Hello, I am hoping that someone here can give me a little bit of help.
I have what I believe to be a John Deere Model LA Tractor, made in I think 1946 (based off of the serial number of 118XX). My father has had it for years and used it to turn the garden over every spring and mostly just kept it up because we had it and we arent the sort to just let it rust.
Then three years ago my father got cancer and it literally just sat in the barn. It has been covered, out of the elements, but I am sure if we drained the gas, put a new fuel filter and battery on, it would start and go. Its not rusting, the tires are good. It was used as a tractor though, so the plow tines (sorry if that isnt the right term, but its better than the "ground sticker thingies" my mother uses) would need to be repainted as they were just hosed off and let dry. And I remember twice in the last fifteen years that it got taken to the JD dealership for a going over and everything checked out.
That said, my mother would like to sell it. Its big, She doesnt need it, and rather than set it out in the pasture to rust, we would rather it see some use. Unfortunatly, I dont know if its worth $500 or $5,000. I have tried looking on the net, but I havent really gotten a good idea.
There are a few guys who have expressed interest in purchasing it, and she would like to get it out of the barn, but I dont want her to get hosed on the deal. By the same token, I dont want to put off a good buyer by asking way too much. If I had a rough idea of what it was worth, it would help give me somewhere to go with.
