My 4230 has developed a noise in the rear. I changed the hydraulic fluid, filter, screen in the spring when I did axle bearings and seals.. Screen was completely clean, fluid was clean, opened filter it was clean. Brakes were perfect on both sides. I have used it about 150 hours since. When it gets hot, hydraulic oil that is, I get a rattle/knocking noise from under my feet/seat. It doesnt matter if the clutch is pushed in/ or in gear. This is a quad range. It shifts fine, works in all gears. Hydraulics seem fine, steering okay, 3pt up and down fine, although it does settle after an 1hr or so, but has done that along time. I decided to pull the shaft for the trans pump. It does has a touch of wear, but nothing I would consider terrible. Is it possible for the pump to rattle when the fluid gets hot. I looked on JDparts.com and didnt really see anything in the pump like a bushing that would do that. The noise does change when I used hydraulic functions, gets quiet when I lift up and implement. That is why I am leaning towards a new pump and shaft. But on the flip side dont want to waste my time. One other strange thing that has developed now that is is cooler at night. The pto will run for about 45- 60 seconds when I first start it. I check the linkage and it is returned all the way, and nothing is stuck under the rod. I bought this tractor new and was planning on keeping it around for misc use. But its starting to become a pita. Thanks for any insight.
