The lack of power steering and direction reverser make the 40 a little less user friendly for blade work than a 420/430 BUT if you're in good shape it shouldn't be a problem! ;)
Adding some extra weight and tire chains might be necessary as well depending on conditions.................
One thing is for sure though, if the tractor has good compression, is tuned-up properly, and has proper winter oil(0W30), it'll start whenever you need it! I've started our 40U at -40F WITHOUT engine pre-heat. Although it has been converted to 12V and is still utilizing a 6 V starter(great cranking speed!)......................
