Knew I shouldn't have said 1950s without looking it up. Have a 48-49 JD pocket ledger that shows FB drills so they were made in 40s but I'm not sure when they first came out. I haven't seen any FB with large steel wheels or any in manuals but that doesn't mean there wasn't such. On the FB the box is really all one just divided with two lids and the drill size was stenciled on back of box also. Some earlier and other later drills had seperate mounted smaller fertilizer attachment boxes that were mounted on rear or grass seed boxes mounted on front. Had some manuals drug out to answer someone about a SS drill and only found a manual for the JD VB No. 147 Fertilizer attachment box shown to fit B, RB, EE and SS grain drills. It shows a EE and SS drill with fertilizer box and those drills had the tall steel wheels and was stenciled John Deere Van Brunt across back of fertilizer box and also underneath in smaller letters 147 fertilizer attachment for 16x6 EE drill. I thought maybe some B or R models also might have had tall steel wheels? I'll have to scan more pics of old JD drills into implement photos soon.
