1010s and 2010s share the old two-cylinder engine bolt-pattern. So, 1010s, 2010s, and 420-430-440 two cylinder gas engines will interchange. But, I doubt you want a two cylinder engine in your 1010 although the 1010 four cylinder and the 420 two cylinder engines are just about the same cubic inch displacement (113 and 115 c.i.) 2010 or combine engine will bolt right in. The extra power isn't much of a problem except for heavy work while the reverser is in "reverse" - if your machine has a hydraulic reverser. The 1010 basic drivetrain including the final drives is just as strong - and in some ways the same - as used in the later 350s. Deere Company repowers the 350s with a 179 cubic inch 47 horsepower engine. A 2010 gas or diesel is also 47 horsepower - i.e. the same power rating. Problem with the hydraulic reverser is the inadequate size input shaft counter-bearing. It was too small for heavy work in the 1010s and early 350s. Deere sold updated parts for it that required changing the input shaft/drum and bearings (very expensive). Simple solution is - if you have to work the machine heavy going backwards - keep the reverser in "forward" and use the gear reverse in the transmission instead. When the 350C series began, the gear-reverse was eliminated - but it's there for all the older machines.
