I have had a seven foot 455 for about 10 years and cut about 25 acres per year with it. I have had no mechanical trouble other than one knife breaking from metal fatigue. As long as the knife sections and guards are sharp and in good shape you should find it satisfactory. The pitmanless drive is far better than my former mower with a pitman for cutting on slopes or where the knife may jam up in wet grass--the belt slips instead of the pitman breaking. I now have a haybine for my bigger fields, which I like far better than any mower where the fields are flat and big enough to use it. But I still use the 455 in confined places or where there may be rocks or other obstructions. Like all sickle mowers, it wants the grass to be dry with no gopher mounds or clods of dirt. I think it is at least as good as any other sickle mower.
