Dad always bought flats and had 694,695 &697 corn plates and the 1255 soybean plates as the chart below shows,once in awhile we would borrow some from the dealer if we didn't have the right ones. Later a neighbor gave us a bunch of plastic plates. You could have all I could find if you were in swMn. I think a round would have worked better in a plate planter vs. a flat but that's what we did and it worked. If you are going to plant corn over 20,000 try to find 24 cell plates so the planter doesn't have to run so fast to get population, put an ad on craigslist, by the time people get done calling you will probably have hundreds of them for next to nothing
