Bill--I tried to grab the auger and lift it upward. It does not move at all.The only thing I can figure is the top of the tank must have been pushed upward with an overload of feed in the tank. I was thinking maybe I could weld some extentions onto the bearing support so it extends downward into the tank and thus will let the shaft stick through further. Any other thoughts on this? I rechecked my parts manual and it does not show any locking collar above the top bearing but there is one on the bottom of the auger they call a spacer but in the drawing it appears to have a set screw in it. I think if the bottom collar moved or was loose I would be able to lift the auger upward by hand. This is not the case. I think the lid is bent about a 1/2' to 3/4". Since the top is a welded unit to the round tank I don't think it would be very easy to bend it back. That is why I was thinking of just leaving it alone and extending the ears on the bearing support so as to let it come down further on the auger shaft.
