The 14t and 24T are really old these days. Some are rusted into lumps, some are worn out. My Mf-12 wasn't absolutely perfect but I baled thousands of bales each year with it. I'd say the best small square baler is one that is close to you and that needs no parts or adjustments before baling. Its better if there is good dealer support close by, with both parts and good mechanics for finessing the knotters. Nearly all the square balers did the job they were intended to do, without a great deal of variation in bale quality or reliability of operation. A newer than the MF-12 and JD 14T and 24T ought to be less worn and have better parts availability and so be a better "best" baler in the long run than one of the older vintage. Back in the 80's before I bought the MF-12 or the hay field, I asked at a Deere dealer about the power required to run a 14T. The old guy at the counter said that was the wrong question. That the 8N I had at the time was powerful enough to run the baler and that a lot more tractor could be harder on the baler. I know the MF-135 ran my MF-12 with loaded rack decently. Gerald J.

Although he himself has never actually owned or restored a tractor, he was always enthusiastic and always around helping with other peoples projects.
