The Gleaner FII would be more the same as a JD 6600 not a JD 4400. The K Gleaner was kind of between the JD 3300 and JD 4400.
The headers would decide the question for me. The JD corn head and JD flex head are far better than the Gleaner heads that most FII had. The black Gleaner corn heads where not too bad but still way behind the JD 40 series corn head.
Look at some of the posts on here looking for a flex head for a FII Gleaner. There are not many around. You can find literally hundreds of JD 213,215, and 216 headers around. They all will fit on the JD 4400 or JD 6600. ( Side hill drives might need changed but they would all bolt up.)
I went through this with a close friend 20 years ago. He wanted a 15 foot flex head on a straight "F" Gleaner. It was like looking for hens teeth. Either the header had the wrong mounts or the wrong header controls. We looked for almost a year to find the header he needed.
The basic machines are comparable. I don't like the changing pulleys and belts to switch from one crop to another with the Gleaner. I do like the hydraulic swing unloading auger on the FII. A JD 6600 would be about the same machine as far as capacity. A JD 6620 would be a step in easy of operating.
The second big issue to me behind the headers is DEALERS!!! Around here you are going to be driving for a while to find a AGCO dealer that keeps any Gleaner parts on hand. There are two AGCO dealers that stock SOME Gleaner parts within 75 miles of me. There are 7 JD dealers in 75 miles of me. That is different everywhere. So look at where your dealers are at. With a 30-40 year old combine, of any brand, you are going to be buying parts.

I've heard the arguments for non-detergent oils but would never trade it for today's formulations. Paint is another, the modern acrylic enamels are great for resistance to grease and fuel stains, retaining their shine and they last forever; unlike enamels and lacquers . Still another is the alternator. No doubt using the original generator keeps the tractor pure, but for thos
