I am looking at my first combine, other than my AC 60. Currently have about 200 acres of crops, soys, corn, wheat. I have found several combines, specifically Gleaner F2 and JD 1400 and 1420. I decided to purchase a combine after hiring my crops harvested custom and paying out year after year. This way I get my crop cut on time (hopefully) and have fun. I want a simple machine to work on. I understand needing a flex header, and corn header, but what are things to look for in a used machine? I don"t want junk. Are the 4400 and F2 comparable? What are good points and bad about each? Should I look for a hydrostatic transmission? What parts wear badly that could doom a running/driving machine to not thresh well? I know- a lot of questions, but just need advice on my first machine.
