gin1,I think he told you the wrong lever to leave alone.We never use the lever that takes the head gearbox out of gear.We leave it engaged all the time and use the lever for the belt tensioner to take the heads in and out of gear.The 782 has a ring gear and pinion in the gearbox for the heads just like a car rearend that spins off of the hydraulic drive motor for the main trans.We have had problems with the cable binding and not letting the lever in the cab put the gearbox in gear good.(once you get it in gear leave it and dont mess with it unless you are servicing it)Your problem sounds like slipping belts.Watch the pulley on the head gearbox and see if it is turning when the heads are not.If you have anymore questions please feel free to ask.
