i think you should check out the briggs and stratton vanguard or the kohler command for a retrofit into your 782. these engines are modern ohv design and are significantly cheaper to buy than $2000. this figure sounds to me like the dealer was trying to make his next boat payment off your mother and dad. try tulsa engine warehouse and small engine warehouse before you committ to a local rebuild. The KT- 17 does not have that good of a reputation anyway. im not sure, but you should consider the expense of replacing the electric clutch if you retrofit in an engine that is not compatible with the kt-17 clutch that you already have. these can be as much as 3 or 4 hundred
