I have an older MTD 2-stage snowblower with a bad engine that I would like to rebuild/replace and give the snowblower to my daughter who is buying her first house. I got this rig free and the motor is in a basket. With the exception the of the valve lifters the parts are all there and the rod and piston are still in the block.
The cylinder is scored and the exhaust valve seems to be a bit wet so I am assuming this was a smoker.
This is the motor type that has a secondary pulley mounted on the end of the cam and I am having trouble finding a short block. I am now starting to think about boring oversized (.020) and doing new piston and rings.
Any thoughts on rebuilding vs. keep looking for a short block?
