I have to agree with the folk that say this would make a good light tractor.
Short of a Select-0-Speed powershift, the 5 speed with its 3rd - Reverse shuttle was really good on a loader. That said, I would have preferred that Granddad had kept his loader on his 871 SOS, rather than putting it on the 850.
A four speed of the day surely couldn't beat it for shuttle or PTO work. While I'm not familiar with the later 8 speed, I can't see how it could shuttle any better than the old "monkey shift" (that's what I called the five speed).
The only con I can think of on the 5 is that it had/has the slowest road gear of any of the transmissions used behind the 4 cylinder engines. Oh, and it's not a Select-0-Speed. :lol:
