You can replace the 2-1/2" Cylinder with a 3" type. You will need the four studs and nuts etc as they are bigger and stronger on the 3" cylinder. They went from 7/16" to stepped 1/2" studs one end and 7/16" on the other. You will also need to re-set the hydraulic controls, you can't just add the cylinder and hope for the best. Of course you will need the bigger Piston as well with the Steel Rings. These settings will most likely need to be re-set anyway due to wear and tear over the years.
