The Hydraulic cylinder and piston attached to the top cover.
I think the later 35's and 40's have a 3" cylinder but I could be wrong.
Wonder if I could replace 2 1/2" the cylinder and piston with the 3", and if the linkage would swap over.
Might be interested in it if you have the cyl. and piston.
Thanks

You can replace the 2-1/2" Cylinder with a 3" type. You will need the four studs and nuts etc as they are bigger and stronger on the 3" cylinder. They went from 7/16" to stepped 1/2" studs one end and 7/16" on the other. You will also need to re-set the hydraulic controls, you can't just add the cylinder and hope for the best. Of course you will need the bigger Piston as well with the Steel Rings. These settings will most likely need to be re-set anyway due to wear and tear over the years. I have the re-setting info if you need it. John(UK)[email protected]

I may have a good cylinder and piston also if the first gentleman with the f40 parts can't help you , email is open.

Just upgrade to the 3" cylinder and piston you can get on this site. Need new studs as John(UK) mentioned, and you'll have to drill out the cover holes to use them. But at least they're on the same centers, so you can just use the original holes as guides.

The 3" upgrade also gains you lifting ability, so it's a nice upgrade. I did it on my 55 To-35 (S/N 141741) as I had the same issue as you.. Scored so bad, I had more oil bypassing the piston than staying in.

Thanks all for the replies. John, I have the instructions you sent me about the linkage. Have anything on disassembling the linkage off the cyl. Do you have to remove the rod with the spring on it to get to the one bolt at rear of linkage?
el and Minor, for some reason you email doesn"t show as open.
If you could reply to
tbbahner@embarqmail. com
would like to talk to you offline about cyl./piston
