Hi PJ, I really think you should pass on this tractor and tell me where it's located :) Look for a white crystline powder under the radiator cap. Thats sodium silicate used to seal a blown head gasket. If thats not there then look for black floaters in the water as that would also be a leaking or cracked head. If it has anti-freeze, then feel the top inside of the exhaust pipe for being sticky and again indicates a head problem. Any miss is another bad sign. Could be nothing more than a bad fuel filter, injector, unadjusted valves or could be a bad head. White smoke is bad compression but be careful this time of the year as condensastion also is white smoke just because of low abiment temperature. Blue smoke is bad rings or valves and black to clear is good. Run the engine for atleast 30 to 60 minutes before making any decisions as you need it at 185 degrees to tell all. If the engine is warm when you get there then really look close as there usually trying to hide something. Let us know what you found out! T_Bone
