It is my understanding that a W-6 and a straight M shared the same engine block except for the casting of the cubic inch size on the block. The W-6 had the C-248 but the M did not. The C-264 was found in all super M's and 400's. A C-281 was found in the 450 tractors. If your a correct policeman, you can get most guys pulling M's and M-TA's because of this casting number (ANY NOTICABLE MODIFICATIONS TO THE ENGINE BLOCK). So most bore the stock W-6/M block out for bigger/thinner walled oversize kits for Farmall 400's
