as the clutch disc wears you need to keep shortening the clutch rod to increase the free play. this is 3/4- 1" as per manual. so now you need to lengthen this rod to get the proper free play. this prevents the throw out brg. from continuously turning on the fingers. also an unadjusted clutch will cause slippage under load and burn the clutch disc and also cause heat cracks in pressure plate and flywheel. hopefully you have checked your's for wear and distortion. usually the flywheel gets resurfaced and pressure plate replaced. on these old putt's around tractors it may not be critical and will take some time to wear in with adjustment. leave pressure plate fingers alone.
