clutch adjustment on M

Hi. I"m new to this forum. Have never changed a clutch on an M before. Replaced everything (not pressure plate)& have everything back together again properly. But now I have to extend clutch pedal rod quite a bit to engage. What has changed? The new clutch disc is only about 3/16" thicker that the old worn one. Seems that clutch is harder to push now when engaged. Is adjusting fingers on pressure plate necessary now with new clutch? Thanks, Sam

Leave the fingers on the pressure plate alone. Any adjustment needed will be done on the outside linkage.

as the clutch disc wears you need to keep shortening the clutch rod to increase the free play. this is 3/4- 1" as per manual.
so now you need to lengthen this rod to get the proper free play. this prevents the throw out brg. from continuously turning on the fingers. also an unadjusted clutch will cause slippage under load and burn the clutch disc and also cause heat cracks in pressure plate and flywheel. hopefully you have checked your's for wear and distortion. usually the flywheel gets resurfaced and pressure plate replaced. on these old putt's around tractors it may not be critical and will take some time to wear in with adjustment. leave pressure plate fingers alone.

Thanks guys for the quick info. Looks like I can close things up on the M now. It's used at tractor shows & some pulling contests at times. Otherwise it will never see much work anymore. Appreciate your help. Sam
