I'm going through the same thing for a 48 super A I need to paint.
Apparently 48's used the IH50 - then they changed to the 2150 paint after that - and back and forth and who knows what.
makes your head spin.
It seems like the bottom line is that it REALLY doesn't matter.
Keep in mind these were (and are) trators, not sports cars. I don't think IH really cared that much to make each one perfect, and even less about making them perfectly the same.
I'll guarantee that you could put two brand new tractors, made the same year, side by side and see a color difference between the two.
So there really ISN'T an answer to the question. It's not that people are being evasive or vague. The answer is you need farmall red-ish. So you might as well pick the shade that YOU like the most.
Living in an age where technology allows quality standards to be much more rigid, it took me a while to accept that loose answer myself.
But when you consider they only had eyeballs to evaluate color spectrums back then, it makes a lot more sense.
Choose your color they way they did - find what you think is the right color, and paint with what looks the closest to it.

Some of them only bring their noses down out of the air long enough to look down them anyway. If you are like me you are only doing this old tractor stuff because you enjoy it. You
