Original 300 Utility manifolds had the exhaust pipe exiting downward from the FRONT, not up from the middle of the manifold, and it did NOT screw into the manifold. The connection was with a flanged pipe onto a short cast-iron outlet pipe from the manifold. We turned ours up to keep from catching hayfields on fire by simply un-bolting the outlet pipe and turning it over 180 degrees to point up. Then we "altered" the hood on the left side to accomodate the original pipe and muffler. Sounds like someone has replaced your manifold with one off a non-utility model.
